Adventures for Life Skills

By Alpkit

Adventures for Life Skills teaches children that teamwork, resilience, and joy can be found on the water, revealing the power of sailing to transform lives.

Be it cycling and wild camping through Iceland or pedalling and paddling Fisherfield Forest, we all love an adventure. Getting lost somewhere and making unforgettable memories in the most unlikely of places, and we often surprise ourselves with what we can achieve when left to fend for ourselves in the wild. In fact, adventures can help build us as people, aiding us in ways that can help us later on in life with skills such as teamwork and communication, and that's what Elizabeth has set her sights on with The Outward Bound Trust's 'Skills for Life' award.

The Outward Bound Course is a 19-day trip where teenagers aged 15-18 are able to go on Summer Adventure to have an amazing experience. It is where you will be able to create friendships with new people from all over the world. The Outward Bound Course provides 'learn life skills' activities through teamwork such as kayaking hiking camping rafting and much more. The project enables you to channel all stress and pressures and to be inspired by such an amazing outdoor adventure.

With a little help from the Alpkit Foundation, Elizabeth is heading for the Scottish Highlands this summer to take part in the 19 day adventure so that it may boost her CV with new skills and experiences and help her reach the goal of studyingEnglish Literature at Oxford University.

"I am doing the project because I believe that it is a great way to socialize with diferent people though teambuilding and it enables you to test not only your physical but mental capabilities through confidence and achievement. My GCSE's are next year therefore I think it will be a great way to have a peaceful mind-set for when I return to school in September. It would be a huge learning curve where I will gain independence and maturity."

Good luck Elizabeth, we look forward to hearing all about it!
