Insight: Adventures with Sight Loss - A Peak District Bouldering Short Film

By Kenny Stocker

John Churcher, a deaf-blind adventurer, worked with Alpkit Foundation on a short film where he climbed Stanage. They provided a Project bouldering mat

We could all do with a bit of a distraction right now, so here's two and a half minutes of inspiration.

With the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival sadly but understandably cancelled (read how to support the future of the festival), now feels as good a time as any to share this short film.

John Churcher is a deaf-blind adventurer whose adventures take him climbing, sailing, running, swimming, cycling, caving - even to the top of the Eiger. John approached the Alpkit Foundation for support on a short film he was working on with filmmaker Adrian Burrows. We were able to provide a Project bouldering mat for the shoot, and were absolutely delighted when John got back in touch with us to share the end result.

We don’t want to give too much away – you'll have to watch it – but it’s a truly inspiring and beautifully shot cinematic portrait.Go on, you've got two and a half minutes - we'll make our own home cinemas!

"The theme is to give everything a go, and don’t put limitations on yourself - you never know where it will lead you" - John Churcher

You can follow more of John's adventures on his website.
