Full mountain boot range

The Magnificent Seven

By Kenny Stocker

Seven styles, every one built for a specific mountain day. From B2 mountaineering to trail-and-bike, meet the complete Alpkit footwear range.

We have developed our footwear range with bootmakers in the foothills of the Dolomites, where serious mountain footwear has been made for generations. The brief was simple: one boot for each specific adventure on foot, designed properly, with nothing spare. Every waterproof style in the range uses PFAS-free membranes and all run on a European-manufactured sole unit.

All killer, no filler. Find the one for your next adventure.

Montee

Some ground demands your full attention from the first step. The Aonach Eagach under snow. An alpine approach before dawn, axes on the pack. A ridgeline where the conditions can change before you reach the other end. Montee is built for exactly this. The B2 rating means the sole is stiff enough to stand in a crampon with full confidence. A built-in heel welt makes it C2 crampon compatible, so rear-bailing crampons clip on securely for technical winter ground. Sympatex membrane rated to 20,000mm holds up in the conditions that demand this kind of boot. Vibram XS Trek grips on snow, ice and mixed rock where a lesser compound loses confidence.

Perfect for: the Aonach Eagach in winter. Scottish ridges under snow. Alpine mountaineering routes.

Alta Rocca

Where the path fades into rock and careful footwork really matters. Alta Rocca is for technical mountain days: long approaches on rough ground that open out into ridges, scrambles and via ferrata routes where steep terrain rewards precision. The close 9-point lacing lets you fine-tune the fit from ankle to toe for control on scrambly terrain, where a wider pattern would leave movement. A full rand runs the length of the upper, taking the abrasion from rock contact that accumulates fast on rough ground. Vibram XS Trek grips confidently on wet slabs and polished stone. Tepor membrane throughout: PFAS-free, hydrophilic, and keeps breathing when you are working hard on a steep approach.

Perfect for: the full Cuillin Ridge traverse. The GR20. Via ferrata routes in the Dolomites.

Pilot

Some boots are specialist tools. This classic leather boot is the one you reach for automatically: left by the back door after a wet walk, pulled straight back on the next morning. The oiled nubuck leather upper is the key to what makes Pilot different: naturally water-resistant, durable in a way synthetic materials are not, and built to develop a patina over years of use rather than simply wear out. A Vibram XS Trek sole for grip on wet rock and rough moorland ground. Tepor membrane for waterproofing that breathes. The padded collar and tongue soften the fit from the first step, so there is no painful breaking-in period before the boot starts feeling right.

Perfect for: Red Pike, Lake District. Long moorland routes. Any British hill, any British weather.

Atlas

The boot you stop noticing once you are into the day. Atlas is built for long miles and big routes: multi-day trails, long-distance paths and loaded backpacking trips where comfort over distance matters as much as grip on the uphills. The mid-height cuff gives your ankle enough support when the pack is heavy and the ground is uneven, without locking the foot in so tight it becomes exhausting. The REACT Grip sole absorbs the repeated impact of a long day on rough terrain. Tepor membrane keeps feet dry through boggy ground and persistent rain without trapping heat on the long climbs.

Perfect for: the West Highland Way. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Any long-distance route with a loaded pack.

Latitude

The days when you want to cover ground. Latitude sits between a walking boot and a trail shoe: lighter and more agile on the move, with Sympatex waterproofing to 20,000mm and a REACT Hike sole that handles rough ground better than anything lighter would. For faster hikes, summer peaks and long days where a full boot feels like more than you need, but a trail runner leaves you short.

The waterproof performance of the Sympatex lining is matched by it's breathability: the hydrophilic construction keeps breathing in persistently wet conditions. Reassuring when that passing shower doesn't pass.

Perfect for: the 9 Edges in the Dark Peak. Linking ridgelines in Eryri. Long summer days where the route starts on damp valley tracks and ends somewhere rocky with a view worth stopping for.

El Chorro

For the ground between trail and crag. El Chorro fills the gap between walking boot and climbing shoe: precise enough for technical footwork on gritstone and limestone, comfortable enough for the walk in. The sticky REACT Grip compound gives traction on rock that a standard trail sole cannot match. The reinforced toe rand handles the abrasion from edging and scrambling, so the upper stays intact after the kind of use that destroys a hiking boot. Close 8-point lacing locks the foot in place for precision footwork without needing to go full climbing shoe. No waterproof membrane, which is spot on for a dry-weather approach shoe where breathability comes first.

Perfect for: Stanage Edge. Three and a half miles of the finest gritstone in England, running high above the Hope Valley.

Tierra

50% trail, 50% bike, 50% trainer built for when the brief changes mid-adventure. The REACT Trail sole gives you grip on rough ground and flat-pedal compatibility on the bike, without compromising either. Reinforced toe and heel take the punishment that comes from a day that mixes saddle time with trail time. Waterproof throughout, for the river crossings and damp starts that are a given on any long multi-day route.

For the routes where the terrain does not stay in one category and neither do you. There is nothing else in the range quite like it, where else would you find a shoe that gives you 150%?

Perfect for: the Scotland Coast to Coast. Bikepack from Mallaig to Montrose via the Cairngorms, hike-a-bike up a Munro to chase the descent.

The technology

Sympatex and Tepor waterproof membranes

Every waterproofed style in the range uses a hydrophilic membrane: no micropores, no PFAS. The Montee and Latitude use Sympatex, rated to 20,000mm hydrostatic head with a breathability rating of 20,000 g/m²/24h. Hydrophilic membranes transport moisture vapour along molecular chains rather than through pores, which means there is nothing to clog over time. Sympatex is PFAS-free throughout manufacture and fully recyclable.

The Alta Rocca, Atlas, Pilot and Tierra use a Tepor hydrophilic membrane: also PFAS-free and rated to 10,000mm.

Vibram XS Trek

The Montee, Alta Rocca and Pilot all run on Vibram XS Trek. Vibram is the benchmark sole compound for serious mountain footwear, and XS Trek is the specific compound optimised for grip on wet rock, loose ground and mixed terrain. When you see the little yellow logo on the bottom of a boot you know it is running on a Vibram sole.

REACT sole unit

The Atlas, Latitude, El Chorro and Tierra use our REACT sole unit, manufactured in Europe. Dual-density PU construction: a midsole layer for cushioning and impact absorption over long days, combined with a tread compound for traction on wet paths and rough ground. Three variants across the four boots: REACT Grip on the Atlas and El Chorro, REACT Hike on the Latitude, REACT Trail on the Tierra. Each tuned to the specific demands of that boot and surface.

We have a full breakdown of how a walking boot is actually put together, from the last to the outsole.
