Details

Built for British hillwalking

Pilot is a modern take on the classic brown leather walking boot. The go-to for British hills, British weather, and the particular stubbornness of British walkers who want a boot that will outlast everything else in their kit bag.

It's the one that gets left by the back door after a wet walk, then pulled straight back on the next morning ready to go again. Classic materials with modern comfort, a Vibram sole and support for year-round hillwalking.

Developed with footwear specialists in north-east Italy, Pilot pairs a durable nubuck leather upper with a breathable waterproof membrane, reliable grip and a supportive fit that feels comfortable straight from the off. A boot you'll trust for mile after mile, year after year.

Highlights

  • Vibram sole - XS Trek compound grips wet rock and rough ground
  • Tepor membrane - breathable waterproofing all year-round
  • Nubuck leather upper - durable, supportive and built to age well
  • Comfort from day one - padded collar and tongue soften the fit
  • Secure lacing - metal hardware improves lace hold and durability
  • Supportive underfoot - PU midsole absorbs impact on long days

Ready for the hills. Day after day.

Pilot is designed for the kind of walking most of us actually do. Wet grass crossing onto rocky tracks. Long descents that leave your knees grumbling a bit. Muddy paths, unpredictable weather and routes that end up bigger than planned.

The Vibram sole with XS Trek compound maintains grip, durability and comfort across mixed terrain with an injection moulded PU midsole that absorbs repeated impacts and provides lasting support for long days in the hills.

Up top, the 2 mm oiled nubuck leather upper gives Pilot its classic feel with a waterproof and breathable Tepor waterproof membrane that lets sweat escape and keeps your feet dry through rain, boggy ground and puddles. The padded collar and tongue give comfort from the first step, with enough room in the toe box for your feet to expand after long days out.

Trail tested

Choose Pilot for Lake District classics, long moorland walks and the miles built up over the years in your local hills. The climb from Buttermere to Red Pike, tracing the ridge across High Stile and High Crag as weather rolls across the Western Fells. Or the route from Cat Bells to Dale Head, where rocky paths, wet ground and big views arrive in equal measure.

Comfort, guaranteed.

Love 'em or return 'em. All our footwear is backed by our 28-day Comfort Guarantee, allowing you to return your shoes if they're not right for you.

Developed with mountain footwear know-how

Pilot was developed with footwear specialists in north-east Italy, where generations of bootmakers have refined footwear for demanding mountain terrain. That experience shapes the fit, heel hold and supportive feel throughout the boot.

The result is a classic leather walking boot with dependable waterproofing that feels reassuringly solid without becoming heavy or clumsy underfoot.

Lower impact by design

Pilot uses a durable oiled nubuck leather upper and an Eco insole made with Arneplant Bio maize oil, retaining the comfort and resilience of standard EVA with lower impact materials. Durable construction and long-lasting materials are chosen to keep the boot useful for years of hillwalking and everyday outdoor use.

Sustainability and Product Care

Product Care

Clean leather regularly with a soft brush and lukewarm water. Treat with a suitable nubuck or leather proofing product to maintain water resistance and prevent the leather from drying out. Dry naturally away from radiators or direct heat sources.

An Arneplant® bio-based footbed made using maize oil helps reduce reliance on petroleum-derived materials without compromising comfort or durability.

Women's footwear size guide

Sizing Guide
UK 4 5 6 7 8
EU 38 39 40 41 42

If you are between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up. Find out more about measuring your feet if you don't know your size.

Understanding fit

Shoe size is your starting point, but a good fit also depends on foot width, arch shape, and overall foot volume.

Our boots are designed around a standard mountain footwear fit and can be fine-tuned with insoles, socks, and lacing techniques.

Foot width

Our footwear is designed around a standard width of approximately 98–102 mm.

This is not a strict limit, as fit also depends on toe shape, arch profile, and overall foot volume.

If you consistently find standard footwear narrow or restrictive, we recommend trying boots on in-store where possible.

Toe shape

Our toe box accommodates a range of foot shapes.

If you have a particularly pronounced Greek foot shape (long second toe) or square toe profile, we recommend trying footwear in-store with one of our qualified boot fitters.

Arch and Volume

High arches and flat feet do not usually require a different boot size, but they can affect how much internal space feels comfortable.

  • Low-volume feet may benefit from a thicker insole for a more secure fit
  • High-volume or high-arched feet may prefer a thinner insole or adjusted lacing

The right insole can dramatically improve comfort, support, and heel hold.

Read our boot fitting guide to learn more about how to achieve a comfortable and performant fit with insoles and lacing techniques.

What to check at home

Always try boots on wearing the socks you intend to walk in.

Walk around indoors and check the following:

Toe Room

  • You should have a small gap in front of your toes
  • Your toes should not contact the front of the boot on descents

Heel Hold

  • Your heel should feel secure
  • Slight movement is normal, persistent slipping is not

Width & Comfort

  • The boot should feel secure without pinching
  • There should be no major pressure points or excessive looseness

If the fit doesn’t feel right, try another size or model.. We have a 28 day comfort fit guarantee.
