Ranger
€349
After enduring ferocious snow and rain for 2 days, Edmund Hilary reached the highest point on our planet and became the first person to summit Everest. He was wearing a Ventile® jacket.
The world has changed in the last 70 years. But the protection of natural Ventile® has endured.
The wonder of Ventile®is in the fibres and the weave.
The highest quality organic cotton is woven into an incredibly tight 'Oxford Weave'. A weave so tight wind can't get through. And with such a high surface tension that rain droplets bead naturally on the surface.
Ranger is a natural fibre, full-featured alternative to the modern mountain shell.
It is weatherproof, breathable, and extremely hard-wearing. Rangers high-tech Ventile® fabric is made in Switzerland using the highest quality (GOTS-certified) organic cotton and treated with a PFC-free DWR. It combines traditional technology with modern design.
Designed for a lifetime of outdoor adventures, the Ranger is the perfect jacket for mountain days.

Designer‘s notes
"Ventile® isn't waterproof, but it's fantastic in changeable conditions, with better rain protection than a softshell. The fabric has such a tight weave that wind and rain droplets from passing showers can't squeeze through. In more prolonged rain, the cotton fibres on the outside swell and absorb water. This closes up tiny gaps in the weave to keep you protected from bad weather for longer."

How It Is Made
GOTS-certified organic cotton
Ventile® is woven in Switzerland using the highest quality organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Organic cotton farming produces significantly less CO₂, uses less water and eliminates the use of harmful pesticides. And it feels great!
Recycled materials
The Ranger uses recycled YKK Natulon zips, recycled brass poppers and all the labels are made from recycled polyester.
PFC-free DWR
The Ranger uses a completely PFC-free DWR treatment on its outer fabric. PFCs are potentially harmful and have been found to build up in the environment.
Where It Is Made
Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.
All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.
Reducing our carbon footprint
We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.
We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.
