Out here, things change quickly
A twisted ankle on a winter hillside can become a rescue once the light goes and the wind picks up. Mike Park MBE of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team has seen it happen. In Ready for the unexpected, he explains why the cold is often a bigger threat than the injury, and what to carry so a small mishap stays small.
What's on the kit list
The kit list covers what keeps you warm, dry and seen when a day runs longer than planned: waterproof jackets, insulated layers, hats and gloves, head torches, first aid kits, power banks, trekking poles and insulated bottles.
How it works
- Shop from the Mountain Rescue kit list between 12 October and 8 November 2026.
- Enter code SAFER10 at checkout.
- We donate 10% of the value of the kit list items in your order to Mountain Rescue England and Wales. Other items in your basket don't count towards the donation.
Why Mountain Rescue
Mountain Rescue teams are volunteers. They're on call day and night, all year round, and they rely on fundraising and donations to keep going.
We've supported them for a long time. Our stores gave 10% of sales to their local teams over a bank holiday weekend in 2021. Our factory made custom medical rucksacks for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue. And the Alpkit Foundation has helped fund a defibrillator for Edale Mountain Rescue Team and a search drone in Scotland.
