Koala 7L: The Saddle Bag That Eats Up Your Kit

Koala 7L: The Saddle Bag That Eats Up Your Kit

By Kenny Stocker

Bikepacking bags aren’t just for multi-day epics anymore. As Cyclist magazine’s Ewan Wilson discovered, the Koala 7L seatpack is just as handy for winter training rides and day trips as it is for full-blown bikepacking adventures.

Wilson was quick to praise the spacious-yet-compact design, highlighting how it strikes a balance between traditional saddle bags and full-on bikepacking kit. Seven litres is enough room for essentials (or, as Wilson put it, a Chicken Triple, nut bar and smoothie), yet it doesn’t feel bulky or throw off handling. That’s a rare sweet spot in the world of saddle bags, where you often have to choose between too small and too cumbersome.

“It frees up my back pockets from overpacking – particularly in these winter months – and it was pretty steady during my test ride.” – Ewan Wilson, Cyclist

He also gave a nod to the secure attachment system. With three straps locking it down to the saddle rails and seatpost, the Koala stays put, even when loaded up. No irritating sway, no unexpected droop – just a solid, well-balanced pack.

Practicality weighs highly for Wilson. Weatherproofing. X11 and Cordura nylon are waterproof fabrics, making Koala not just a storage solution but an extra barrier against rear-wheel spray. A small but significant bonus for winter warriors and gravel grinders alike.

Best of all? It’s made in the UK and comes with our 25-year guarantee.

How good is the Koala saddle bag?

Wilson clearly rates the Koala seatpack highly, but he didn’t push it to its limits the way a hardcore bikepacker might. Weight capacity? Stability on rough terrain? Ease of access mid-ride? These are key factors for bikepacking bags, and beyond the scope of this review.

Needless to say we have these covered. The roll-top closure is flexible and waterproof and quick to open if you’re stopping mid-ride and need to grab a snack or a tool. Then again, the roll-top is what keeps it fully waterproof – so it’s a trade-off worth making if you ride in all conditions.

Wilson’s review nails the biggest selling points of the Koala seatpack: it’s roomy, secure, and built to last, all without ruining your bike’s handling. It is quick to attach, so can be easily transferred between bikes and it excels in durability and adaptability, making it a top choice for anyone who needs more storage without the bulk.

For winter rides, gravel sessions, or just freeing up your jersey pockets, this is one of the best options out there. And an absolute bargain compared to some of the big-name competitors.
