Climbing involves carrying a lot of heavy and cumbersome things to remote and inaccessible places.

What we could really do with is a tardis for our gear - or maybe a Mary Poppins bag - but who can afford one of those? We decided it was time to take matters into our own hands, so we put our heads together, set the machines in our factory on the edge of the Peak District awhirring, and the Chamois and the Ibex were born.

Say hello to Chamois 45, a veritable tardis for your climbing and trekking gear that's spacious enough to carry your rack, ropes, extra layers, and a burrito, yet light and streamlined enough not to hamper your efforts on a rugged and rocky walk-in.

The Chamois backpack was created to be a hardy companion for adventure. Weighing in at 1148 g with the back stiffener (and 880 g without back stiffener) it combines featherweight stealth and abrasion resistance; the sturdy Cordura fabric is thicker where you need it (the base), and lighter where you don't (the back and upper) so that you're not carrying any unnecessary weight.

The Chamois may be light, but that doesn't mean its load has to be. Bar-tacked contact points, double-stitched seams, and webbing sewn into the seams ensure that the Chamois can handle whatever you load it up with. The removable back stiffener has a central alloy strut can be moulded to your back profile once the sack is loaded up; combine this with the thermo formed waist belt and you can carry even the heaviest of burdens in comfort.

You're not always carrying a whole trad rack around with you, and you don't want to be walking around with a big empty bag; four side compression straps can be cinched in to pack the Chamois even smaller for those streamlined days.

The 8RCW zip is not only tough and long-lasting, but at 94 cm in length it opens wide enough that even untidiest of adventurers can find their chocolate hobnobs in the bottom of the bag without emptying out the contents. For the more organised explorer, a large zipped internal pocket makes the perfect hidey-hole for your guidebook and keys.

Two central webbing ladders are ideal for clipping on your helmet, chalk bag, and smelly climbing shoes (although keep you smelly shoes far from our noses please!).

The Chamois is available in two back lengths to accommodate all shapes and sizes of explorer and all manners of adventure; climbers may want to wear the rucksack higher up on the back for extra mobility.

Chamois comes with our 25 year Alpine Bond warranty.

How to Measure

Step 1 - Tilt your head forward and find your C7 vertebrae (a.k.a. the bone that sticks out at the bottom of your neck between your shoulders).
Step 2 - Place your hands on top of your hip bone with your fingers facing forwards and your thumbs pointing across your back.
Step 3 - Now measure from your C7 vertebrae, down to the point that meets the line between your thumbs.
