Outdoor swimmer in clear loch

Why we use Econyl ® in our swimwear

By Kenny Stocker

We believe that what we make, and how we make it, matters. That’s why the fabric behind our swimwear starts with cleaning up the mess.

We swim to reconnect. With the cold clarity of open water, with the rhythm of our breath, and with something bigger than ourselves. Whether it’s a sunrise dip, an extended swim in a meandering river, or a quiet float in a wild loch, swimming brings us joy, calm, and clarity. It’s not just a sport - it’s a way to belong to the world again.

Clean Waters

This connection depends on the health of our waters. The oceans we swim in are under increasing pressure—from plastic pollution, overfishing, and warming temperatures. Ghost fishing nets drift through reefs. Microparticles from synthetic fabrics end up in riverbeds. Clean water isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a necessity—for ecosystems, for adventure, and for future generations. We still have a long way to go.

We believe that what we make, and how we make it, matters. That’s why the fabric behind our Nefyn, Dulsie, Hythe and Hurley swimwear starts with cleaning up the mess.

Am I allowed to sneak in a quick preview of 2 new upcoming swimwear products that will also be using Econyl? help my fingers can't stop typing.. Nessie will take Dulsie to new heights of adventure with full-length sleeves and shorty length legs. Its going to be great for chilly swims and SUP paddles. Baltic will bring the convenience of separate tops and bottoms, fully lined with power mesh, supportive and engineered for unconstricted swimming action.

Introducing Econyl®: Regenerating Waste into Performance Fabric

Econyl® is a regenerated nylon yarn made entirely from nylon waste drifting around in our waters - like abandoned fishing nets, industrial plastic, and fabric scraps. Instead of heading to landfill or polluting the ocean, these materials are collected, cleaned, and chemically broken down. Through an innovative process developed by Italian company Aquafil, they’re transformed into brand-new nylon with the same performance qualities as virgin material.

It’s a circular material solution. Waste is turned into something useful—again and again.

Why Econyl® Is Perfect for Swimwear

Performance matters. Our swimwear is made for movement in a range of environments from cold water immersion to relaxing in kinder waters under a languid sun.

Econyl® offers:

  • Excellent elasticity for a close, comfortable fit
  • Chlorine and UV resistance for durability
  • Quick-drying properties for comfort
  • Soft, breathable feel on the skin
  • Shape retention even after extended wear

It performs like traditional nylon—because it is nylon—just without the environmental cost.

Fitting In with Our B Corp Commitment and Climate Goals

As a certified B Corp, we’re committed to doing business in a way that benefits people and planet. That includes examining the materials we use and reducing the emissions and impacts associated with our products.

Econyl® helps us:

  • Cut down on raw material extraction
  • Lower CO₂ emissions compared to virgin nylon
  • Support the circular economy by designing products with reuse and regeneration in mind

We’ve also signed up to Science Based Targets, aligning our business with the urgent need to keep global warming below 1.5°C. Every choice we make—from packaging to production—feeds into that bigger picture. Using materials like Econyl® is one way we translate those targets into action.

Swim With Purpose

When you pull on our swimwear, you’re not just stepping into the water—you’re part of a larger effort to protect it. You’re choosing clean design, better materials, and a future worth swimming in.
