Retail Development Manager

Location: Alpkit (Your nearest store)
Position: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 40hrs per week


We need someone to join our retail team to develop, manage and support our stores in creating an unrivalled place to shop and service to our customers. Deliver the physical embodiment of Alpkit and Sonder brands so you get a unique experience no matter the location.

Think of one of our stores as a base camp, a well-equipped gear store with the entire Alpkit product range inside. We've got a wetsuit to try on, bike packing luggage to fit for size and sleeping bags packed up to show their pack sizes. You can hire a bouldering mat, demo a bike, or book your tired and weary kit in for repair. Or, you can just come in and hang out when you're soggy and tired after a full day running, biking or hiking!

About the Role

  • Embrace the store blueprint and put effective plans in place to make it real.
  • Guide our store leadership. Lead from the front instilling a culture of can-do attitude; unrivalled customer service; and teamwork.
  • Develop and implement best procedures and practice in store (sales tools; visual merchandising; store layout; signage; staff planning, recruitment and training; repair station and continuum; events and local marketing; housekeeping standards).
  • Co-ordinate our retail training program of product, adventure and cross-skills – making it available to everyone at Alpkit (including Campus staff).
  • Deliver our ethical and environmental priorities through our store teams.
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of our stores and retail environment.

    Finance Director

    Location: Alpkit Campus (Nottingham)
    Position: Hybrid working (Nottingham/Home)
    Hours: As contracted


    We're looking for a Finance Director to join us at Alpkit HQ. Your role will be to lead our finance and HR team. You'll be liaising with the board, suppliers, customers and financial institutions to ensure we have the funding in place to turn our vision into a reality, keeping the business on track to deliver results.

    About you
    You'll be a qualified accountant with experience of raising finance and a proven track record leading a finance team, ideally in the outdoor industry, cycling industry or within retail and consumer goods. A strategic thinker with demonstrable commercial flair, able to challenge and ask questions at all levels. We're looking for a 'boardroom skillset' with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a fast-paced growth environment.

  • Build and lead our Finance and HR Team: making sure we're doing the right things and doing them right and consistent with our policies and principles particularly relating to sustainability.
  • Engage and enthuse the rest of the management team and help them feel good about Alpkit and what we stand for.
  • Support the senior team and help create growth strategies and plans delivering operational excellence.

    HR Manager, 9-month Maternity Cover

    Location: Alpkit Campus (Nottingham)
    Position: Hybrid working (Nottingham/Home)
    Hours: 24hrs per week across 4 or 5 days (Monday - Friday)


    Your role in Alpkit
    We are looking for an experienced People Manager to join us at Alpkit to cover a fixed term maternity leave. So, if you’re highly organised and put people at the heart of what you do, we want to hear from you!

    This role will touch most areas of people & payroll support so will need someone who is extremely well organised and has a fantastic attention to detail, some would say bordering on obsessive!

    This is an exciting time to join us; our people are the heart and soul of Alpkit, and this is a crucial role for us as you will support our Senior Leadership Team in achieving growth, a sustainable business and embedding our culture of happiness.

    Your Alpkit journey will include
    The role is incredibly varied, from supporting staff and managers with day -to day queries, managing our HR database, whilst also having the opportunity to work on some of our exciting employee engagement initiatives such as our Pulse Surveys, Internal Communications and delivering B-Corp initiatives. We have some key deliverables we want to achieve over the next 12 months, so you will enjoy working on HR projects.

    Here is a little flavour of what you will get involved in;

  • All People administration for starters, leavers & changes process including having full responsibility for our HR system Breathe
  • Dealing effectively with first line payroll and people queries and ability to lead on people-related matters with empathy, sensitivity, and with the best interest of staff and Alpkit
  • Recruitment administration
  • Producing key People KPIs to support our Sustainability Goals
  • Build on the reputation of Alpkit as a great place to work through our People Projects such as Pulse Surveys, Retail Store Induction and supporting with the re-accreditation of our B-Corp Status


  • About you
    Most importantly you have a true passion for people, culture, learning and development but here are some other skills and experiences would help you be a true success in this role.

  • Experience of working in an HR Generalist role, covering the full spectrum of HR within a multi-site environment including Payroll
  • Experience in making commercial and values-driven balanced decisions
  • Experience in improving employee value proposition including a love of organising and getting involved in staff events and initiatives
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel Outlook etc), experience of manipulating HR database)

  • This role is in effect a ‘stand-alone’ role, but at Alpkit you are never alone; the role reports into our Finance Director, our Head of People will be available to support throughout this fixed term and both our Board of Directors and SLT are on hand to work with you and support you in this role.

    Customer Support Hero

From the UK designed and made bikes in our workshop, to the bouldering pads and backpacks made in our UK factory. We’re obsessive about Customer Experience.

    We are looking for a new Hero to join our award-winning Customer Support team. Someone who loves gear as much as we do, and can talk about that gear to our customers.

    What you’ll be doing?
    You’ll work within the Customer Support team with responsibility for guiding our customers from order all the way through to delivery. You’ll also help our customers with any aftersales care they may need, with our fantastic 3 year 'Alpine Bond' warranty as a guide.

    Customer Service is at the core of the Alpkit & Sonder experience, and we work hard to continuously improve that experience.

    Your day will include:

  • Providing fast, accurate, personal responses to customers via our omni-channel emails, live chats, and phone calls.
  • Guiding the customer from point of sale to delivery.
  • Liaising with various departments to ensure product delivery is smooth and trouble free.
  • Payment processing using our multiple payment options.
  • Problem solving to ensure stock accuracy and customer satisfaction.

    Factory Machinist

    Location: Alpkit Campus (Nottingham)
    Position: Full-time

    About the Role
    Do you love outdoor kit so much you want to make it? Join our UK factory and bring the passion of what you love doing to the products to help others get out to go nice places and do good things.

    We’re looking for an experienced sewing machinist to join our team to help us out with production. Someone self-motivated who takes pride in producing high-quality outdoor products. You will be taking products from the very start of production to the very end with a group of like-minded outdoors enthusiasts. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, good timekeeping, and a keen eye for detail and quality.

    Key Holder - Alpkit Inverness

    What you’ll be doing
    We’re on the lookout for a Keyholder to join our new Inverness Team, as a key holder for the store you will support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in driving sales and providing world class customer service. You will love being on the shop floor with our customers, whilst sharing your knowledge of the outdoors, advising on the best kit for the adventures they are going on and sharing the best of the local area.

    The role will involve being responsible for opening and closing the store when the Store Manager/Assistant Store Manager are absent and assisting with deliveries.

    What you’ll be doing
    We’re on the lookout for Store Heroes to join our brand new Alpkit Inverness team. As a member of the store team, you will support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in driving sales and providing world-class customer service. Do you love being on the shop floor with our customers? You'll love sharing your knowledge of the outdoors, advising on the best kit for our customers' adventures and sharing the best of the local area.

    We have a relaxed retail environment, but we work hard. Tea (and coffee for the non-believers) is always to hand, decent music is almost always on, and we are driven by our mission to support our customers to Go Nice Places, Do Good Things.

    Repair Hero - Alpkit Inverness

    Location: Alpkit Inverness
    Position: Permanent, Part-time
    Hours: 16 hours per week


    What you’ll be doing
    Do you love outdoor kit so much; you want to repair it and keep it going for longer? We’re on the lookout for a Repair Hero to join our Inverness Alpkit Team. As a member of the store team, you will support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager by repairing customers kit in our designated repair stations. We take pride in providing world class customer service. We’re looking for your love of outdoor gear and repairing it. Ideally we’re looking for someone with sewing experience, or if you’re handy with a home sewing machine, get in touch!

    Assistant Manager - Alpkit Metrocentre

    Location: Alpkit Metrocentre
    Position: Permanent, Full-time
    Hours: 40 hours per week


    We are looking for someone to join our Metro Centre Store as Assistant Store Manager to provide exceptional customer service to help our customers Go Nice Places, Do Good Things.

    You will want to get involved with both Sonder and Retail and have a passion for the whole outdoors. This role will involve you being a duty manager in the absence of the Store Manager, so this is a great opportunity to develop your retail leadership skills and experience through taking on additional responsibilities and greater involvement in commercial decision making.

    About the Team
    Our customer facing staff play a huge part within Alpkit, which is why this is an exciting opportunity for the individual who loves the outdoors and wants to be part of a growing retailer, offering real service with personality.
