Bivvying with friends in North Wales

A Treasured Outdoor Moment - Bivvying with friends

A Treasured Outdoor Moment - Conor Watt

My treasured moment is from this summer. Three friends and I went up to Ogof Owain Glyndŵr, on Moel yr Ogof, above Beddgelert.

We made a fire, drank, ate and bivvied there overnight. The sunset, and the sunrise were beautiful, with views across the valley and out to the east.

Owain Glyndŵr was the last native Welshman to hold the title ‘Prince of Wales’, and led the Welsh Revolt (1400-1415) against Henry IV of England. Legend has it, that when Owain was trying to evade the English, he hid out in this cave (ogof), high above any potential attackers in the valley below.

I think there is always something magical about sitting around a fire with friends; but, to sit there, to feel as though we were tapping into a long thread of history, added a deeper layer of meaning altogether.

P.S. my Alpkit Cloud Base came in very handy for this one.

Merry Christmas/Nadolig Llawen
