Supporting Scope

By Alpkit>

The Alpkit Foundation is pleased to support Scope, a charity working with disabled people and their families across the UK. They strive to make the country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else, and provide support through schools, residential care and training.

The organisation would like to take 12 young disabled students on an activity week to The Calvert Trust in Exmoor. The trip will enable young people with physical, learning, behavioural and sensory disabilities to experience challenging and enjoyable outdoor activities. Taking place over 4 days, the students will experience horse riding, kayaking and abseiling along with social activities. The trip will allow the group to take part in activities that other people their age may take for granted.

Felicity, from Scope, explains the importance of the project. “From our past experience, we know that by giving students the opportunity to take part in new activities, in a safe and supportive environment, they can grow their independence and confidence. The key outcomes from the trip will be increased independence, team working and problem solving, developing life skills and social interaction. The trip also allows staff to learn more about their students, and also their abilities to help students develop skills and enhance their life experiences in a different environment.”

Without the support of those around them, many disabled young people are at risk of becoming isolated, with their emotional and physical well-being suffering as a result. The Alpkit Foundation are delighted to provide funding for the project, to enable the 12 students to fully participate in all activities.
