Alpkit Foundation is proudly supporting Birmingham’s Cockshut Hill Technology College. The School would like to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award at bronze level with their year 10 and 11 students. The majority of pupils attending Cockshut are from low-income backgrounds. Running the course will give pupils the opportunity to gain new skills and confidence - giving them the tools to become successful. The award aims to provide young people with the opportunity to be the very best they can be. Being able to offer this opportunity to the year 10 and 11 students will have a huge impact on their lives, and will help them to carve a better future.

Tom from Cockshut Hill explains why this award is so important to the school. “The DofE gives young people the chance to do something completely new, and improve on things they’re already doing. It takes them out of their comfort zone and into a place where they’ll push themselves and have amazing new experiences. It allows young people to build confidence, resilience, skills and friendship groups.”

Cockshut Hill will be recieving funding from the Alpkit Foundation so staff can complete the Basic Expedition Leader Award, to safely lead and manage groups in the outdoors. Training staff allows the school to run DofE in house without the need of external providers. They hope to continue running the award each year.
