Join us at Alpkit Edinburgh for a series of navigation courses for beginners with Pete from Walk Scotland. Gain the confidence to venture into the outdoors.
The art of navigation can be seen by many as strange, difficult and confusing, a barrier to enjoying the great outdoors. However, the Walk Scotland navigation for beginners course will give you the confidence to venture into the outdoors with the skills to keep you on the right path allowing you to enjoy the day out rather than worrying about getting lost.
Led by fully qualified and insured mountain leaders, with years of experience teaching and guiding walkers in the hills and mountains of Scotland.
Starting in our Edinburgh store with tea, coffee and biscuits. We'll cover:
Maps - different types and different scales
Grid references
Mapping symbols
Navigation of linear features
Compass work including - using a compass to orientate the map
Relocation
We'll run through enough of the basics to keep you safe whilst out on the hills. Then we'll take the short walk to Holyrood Park to put those newly learnt skills into practice as we journey around Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crag. During the day we will discuss good options to have in your rucksack.
The course will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm, starting at Alpkit Edinburgh. The following dates are available:
