Firn is made to keep you warm, whether you wear it as a standalone outer layer or under a shell for extra protection.

It has narrow micro baffles which give it a slim silhouette for active use when you don’t want to feel too swaddled. That said, when the weather’s brutal and you’re craving that ‘swaddled’ feeling, it fits comfortably beneath your shell jacket. The close-fitting collar and low-profile elasticated cuffs slip easily below your glove cuffs or your waterproof’s sleeves too, to seal out the draughts.

Firn has two zipped hand pockets to bury your hands in. You also have a zipped internal chest pocket for stashing your phone or keys.

The fabric is soft, light nylon that’s comfortable to move in, and it has a water repellent coating on the outer fabric to fend off moisture and dirt. With a 550 FP down fill, it takes up little space in your pack but lofts nicely to keep you well-insulated when you need it.

Care & Environmental Advice

Product Care Information

You can and should wash this garment, most active outdoor folk do this once or twice a year. Washing and re-waterproofing flushes out the dirt and oils that have accumulated so that it puffs up nicely and works better in damp conditions Don’t panic! Down is surprisingly durable and washing is not an onerous task. You can wash it in a front loading washing machine with our detailed instructions (see the FAQs).

Environmental considerations

RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD We use only RDS certified down; all our down is audited by a third party to ensure that it comes from birds who are not live-plucked, force-fed, or mistreated. That’s goodknow. DWR The chemical finish that keeps water beading off your jacket has changed.
As with all garments from responsible outdoor brands, our DWR treated garments meet international environmental standards and require occasional washing with a technical wash to maintain their high breathability.
This wasn’t always the case. Years ago, garments were treated with chemicals that had toxic by-products that lingered in the environment for generations. Those old chemicals needed little maintenance, whereas modern waterproofs need regular washing.
We fully support this change. In fact, we quite like the idea of taking time to look after our kit so that it lasts a long time.
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our products –in fact it’s in our DNA: we can’t imagine ever doing anything else. We always review the materials we use, manufacturing methods and our own consumption of resources. We do the research, make informed decisions, and choose the best option available to us.
