Bivvy Night At Waskerly With Alpkit Metrocentre

Gravel ride from our store followed by a bivvy at Waskerly

Join our Alpkit Metrocentre team on a gravel ride from the store to Waskerly for a night spent bivvying under the stars on the North Pennine moors.

Experience the joys of sleeping under the stars on the moors in the North Pennines with a group of like-minded people. For legal reasons, we have to use a campsite for this event and we have booked at Starlight Camping just off the Waskerley Way. The site is in a remote setting and gives the feel of "wild camp" with the luxury of a toilet block. This makes it ideal for people who have never bivvied before as it is a halfway house between camping and a completely wild bivvy experience.

There will be a group ride from our Metrocentre store in Gateshead leaving at 6:00pm. This route is predominantly gravel and follows the Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way which are easy gravel cycle routes for all abilities. Several staff members from the Metrocentre store will be leading this ride and we estimate to arrive at the camp between 7:30 - 8:00pm.

Attendees are also more than welcome to meet us at the campsite and just take part in the camp. Itinerary for once we have arrived at camp is TBC. Attendees will be expected to bring their own stoves and cookware and food for evening meal/breakfast!

In the morning we will lead a ride back down to Alpkit Metrocentre (you are more than welcome to leave your cars in the shop car park whilst taking part in the event) where we can have refreshments and chat about the outdoors!!

What to bring

Attendees need to be self supported and bring everything which you would take for a solo ride/camp out. This does mean bring a stove and food. We will provide light refreshments but not an evening meal or breakfast - we want to see your camp kitchen setups!! Bivvy bags are expected (after all, this is a "bivvy night") but we don't mind if you choose to bring a tent instead as long as you have everything you need to camp out for one night.

If you need a helpful guide to refer to whilst packing, check out our wild camping checklist. If you do not have a bivvy bag and are thinking of getting one but would love to take part in this event; give us a call and we will see what we can sort out for you.

Arrive at the Metrocentre store at 5:30pm for a 6pm ride start or meet us at around 7:30pm at the campsite.
Tickets cost £12 with 15 spaces available.
