BMC open youth competition

By Dan Bradley

On Saturday 28th September there was a competition at Awesome Walls in Liverpool. Most of the team attended this comp, which was primarily to get into the junior British Climbing Team.

The wall is around 16mtrs high with a very large barrel wall at the end, which proved very testing and was to be where all of the final routes were.

There was a qualification round which consisted of two routes, depending on what category you were in depended on the grade of the routes but all were very testing.
Categories fell into age brackets and with over 100 people competing on the day the standard was very high.

The Nottingham team had Ben Meakin, Luke Tilley, Edd Mowbray and Tom Bonnert competing in the male A category.
In the Male B category was James Parish and Billy Ridal was in the Male C category.

As for the Ladies in Female B: Naomi Tilley, Ailsa Graham and Nat Graham, in Female C it was down to Gracie Martin and Flo Tilley to represent the climbing team.

Out of the 10 who entered the competition 7 got through to the finals with good form and gave an excellent display of technique and strength on the final routes, which were very overhanging and strenuous.
